    Nashville (January 4, 2012) -- Carrie Underwood made wishes come true this holiday season for the schools in her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma with donations amounting to $350,000 through her C.A.T.S. Foundation - Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation. Each of the four schools - Marshall Elementary, Checotah Intermediate School, Checotah Middle School, and Checotah High School - learned just in time for Christmas that they would receive the necessary funds from C.A.T.S. to fulfill various school needs. The donations will go towards items such as new computer labs for each school, plus playground equipment, physical fitness equipment, as well as new band uniforms, furniture, storage, instruments for their music programs, among other items.

  • Carrie Underwood's C.A.T.S. Foundation & KaBOOM! Build New Playground for Checotah Children

    CHECOTAH, Okla. – (Oct. 14, 2011) - Country music superstar Carrie Underwood worked alongside hundreds of volunteers on Friday, where her C.A.T.S. Foundation - Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation - and national non-profit KaBOOM!, built a new playground in one day at Marshall Elementary School in Carrie’s hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma.

    Underwood and the other volunteers assembled the child-designed playground from scratch in less than eight hours with the help of KaBOOM! and more than 200 volunteers on Friday, Oct. 14. Volunteers gathered for a kickoff ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and completed the playground project in time for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m.

    ACM Lifting Lives November theme for its monthly “My Cause” web feature is “Hometown Heroes.” The web feature, which launched in August, will continue to drive awareness of artist-supported charitable organizations and support fundraising efforts for those philanthropies.

    This month, “My Cause: Hometown Heroes” features causes near and dear to artists’ hearts, from serving their hometowns to honoring the legacy of a loved one. Donations can be made to each charity using a donate link available with each video. Carrie will be included in the November "Hometown Heroes" feature in support of her cause, the C.A.T.S. Foundation.

    Nashville (August 19, 2009) – Carrie Underwood has established a newly created fund to help with causes in her hometown area of Checotah, Oklahoma, the C.A.T.S. - Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation.

    Underwood says, “My hometown is extremely supportive of me and I feel blessed to be able to create something as a way of giving back; to say thank you.”

    Established in 2009, the C.A.T.S. Foundation will help with general causes, needs and services in the area of Checotah to directly impact the community. Private resources will fund the assistance. Information on the C.A.T.S. Foundation’s first donation to the Checotah community will be announced soon.

    Encino, CA (August 28, 2009) – Carrie Underwood’s new hometown foundation, the Checotah Animal, Town & School Foundation (C.A.T.S.) and the Academy of Country Music’s charitable arm, ACM Lifting Lives partnered to surprise students today in Checotah, Oklahoma with a gift valued at more than $117,000 in new instruments for their music programs—and a special appearance and performance by ACM Entertainer of the Year, Underwood.

    Music students district-wide were invited to a special “last-minute” assembly at Checotah High School, with buses bringing Checotah Intermediate School and Checotah Middle School in for the occasion. Students and faculty alike were surprised when Checotah High Principal Brian Terry introduced Underwood to the stage, alongside Erin Spahn, Director of ACM Lifting Lives.
